Capsule Wardrobe

How do you add intrigue to a minimal outfit?

The secret of great style is to feel good in what you wear.

Do you know that feeling of looking at the closet full of clothes and thinking you have nothing to wear? Most of us have already had this feeling, this is because we tend to buy on impulse, without analyzing the versatility of the clothes we acquire.

Today I will show you how to assemble a closet composed of timeless pieces, capable of creating amazing looks.

The secret is to have few pieces, but they must be handpicked, wildcard items that allow us several different combinations, multiplying our possibilities.

Having few and good pieces have other advantages: it brings more functionality to your daily life, after all, you will be able to get ready in less time, saving money, in addition to a more sustainable attitude, which is very important for the planet.

Capsule Wardrobe

Have you ever heard of a capsule wardrobe? This idea was launched by the American Caroline Rector, from the blog Unfancy, who proposes a wardrobe made up of only 37 pieces, all highly versatile, that combine with each other and guarantee looks suitable for any situation, just use creativity. A concept that flirts with minimalism and suggests a less consumerist and more ecological posture.

The capsule wardrobe became popular a few years ago and gained many followers. The problem is that over time, people began to get sick and find this format a little dull, because the pieces are very basic.

Living in New England, where the seasons are so accurate, my idea is to have a balance between the wildcard items of the capsule, with those of the season.

The greater the amount of different pieces, the more difficult it is to make combinations. That is why it is important to create a harmony between the classics and what is fashionable, using pieces that allow multiple combinations, along with a few items from the latest trend.

In this way, it is possible to create looks full of personality and style.

Step 1
Do a good screening in the closet. Separate the pieces that no longer serve you or no longer have to do with your style; the duplicate ones, that is, with similar colors and models; and finally, those that you have not used for more than 12 months. Once this is done, donate these pieces to a charity or sell them.

Step 2
Organize your closet by category (blouses, skirts, dresses, etc.) by grouping colors. This will help you a lot when it comes to combining clothes, as well as helping you get ready faster.

Step 3
Have pieces of neutral colors, but also add some with the shades you like. As for prints, invest on classic patterns that never go out of style and are easy to match, such as stripes, plaid. If you like floral, include it too, just don’t overdo the amount of items with this pattern, and make sure it matches the other pieces you already have.

Step 4
There is no such thing as one ideal wardrobe, it varies according to the life habits of each one, climate of the region where one lives and personal style. Therefore, analyze the type of clothing you need to have, if your work requires something more formal or if you need pieces that are more comfortable. This is all important when choosing what will stay in your closet.

Step 5
Buy clothes that match your style. Do you really like that piece, or do you want to have it because it’s fashionable? It’s no use buying the blouse of the latest trend, if you don’t feel good wearing it! It will be money thrown away.

Step 6
Choose pieces that match at least two more items that you already have, this way you increase your chances of creating different looks. This rule applies to all categories of clothing and accessories (dresses, pants, shorts, bags, shoes, etc.).

Step 7
To ensure a perfect mix between timeless pieces and trends, work with the following proportion: for every three basic blouses, have a different one. Have more top pieces (t-shirts, shirts, jackets, etc.), because they are more visible than bottom pieces (pants, skirts, dresses and overalls). Consider the ratio of 3 to 5 parts from top to each bottom.

Step 8
Invest in quality, acquire good pieces, those that have a good fit and are well finished. They will last a long time and you will be more elegant.

There may be others champing at the bit, but Ralph Lauren’s spring collection proves that he remains the master of all-American fashion. From the blue-and-white striped top paired with a navy floral skirt and accented with a neck scarf, to the matching twinset—its cardigan tied at the waist of a pair of periwinkle pants—the effort was a welcome departure from the decadence we so often expect from a fashion show. (Well, at least most fashion shows.) Lauren also made a great case for the brown leather belt. It will certainly be at the top of many spring shopping lists
